Model Panchayat: Sambhariya

SIDART and HSF are working since 2018, together with the aim of creating a fully functioning model panchayat of Sambhariya in the Bassi Panchayat Samiti of Rajasthan. This was innitiated after conducting a baseline study to explore the functionality of the village panchayat. Based on the analysis of the study several awareness and training programs, campaigns, exposures and learning visits are being organized with the aim of eliminating/minimizing the issues and problems faced by the villagers and developing there understanding about the working of the panchayat. In this way, a model panchayat will be created. It has to be ensured that the model panchayat is, in fact, a success, which depends upon the participation of the villagers, especially the women and youngsters as it is their responsibility to take it forward and make it remain sustainable.

This project will be a contribution to the worldwide goal of strengthening decentralized governance such that various aims of eliminating poverty, bringing more and more people above the poverty line, the participation of the underprivileged in governance, inclusive growth, sustained development, etc. are met. A model panchayat will contribute to the efficiency of grass root level democracy and the upliftment of the rural backward villages. It will help in the empowerment of women, youngsters and the elderly in terms of their constitutional rights.

Local development and its benefits can be maximized and SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) targets can be achieved by systematically developing such model panchayats. These can pose as panchayat learning centers where exposure visits of local elected representatives and panchayat functionaries can be facilitated in a systematic manner with the aim of achieving excellence in the functioning of the panchayat.

Model Panchayat-

• A Model Panchayat will contribute to the efficiency of grass root level democracy and the upliftment of the villagers.

• It will help in the empowerment of villagers, women, youngsters and the elderly in terms of strengthening the local self-governance.
